School fundraisers need coordination!

schoolfundraiser.jpgI guess I’m on a school theme today. Both my kids are active in their schools, resulting in numerous fundraisers being sent home to support various activities – this year especially swim team and band. These tend to show up serially, but bunched together, making it difficult to do well at any of them. It also seems like all schools send them home at about the same time.

I’m thinking about this because tonight is Cathie’s Swim Team Banquet, a portion of which was paid for by the team members selling car wash tickets. I ended up with several extra discount exterior wash coupons for Hoffman’s Car Wash – if you are in the area and want a $10 carwash for $8 give me a yell. You’ll probably want to wash the salt off your car sooner or later. :)

While I’m at it, Tim’s school benefits from the sale of Entertainment Books, and you can order one full of discount coupons for any area for which they are published by clicking here and using account number 477951. They make great gifts!

I just wish these things were easier to do – co-workers, neighbors, church folks all get bombarded with these things from every parent and every kid… there’s got to be a better way. Someone think of it quick before all the Little Leaguers and other spring activities get their candy bars!

PS – There’s a youth ministry connection to this one too!  Before you choose youth group fundraisers, consider choosing a time during which schools aren’t doing one for the activities your students are involved with.  Or, find a way to fundraise from a different population and by not selling something.

I think this is a great tip. Maybe it should be a tip. (cough cough)

at a finance meeting with church leaders i was told that our youth were not doing anything to help raise money. it was at this point i went on a gentle rant of ‘what time would you like us to do a fundraiser?” going on through the year of all the fundraising the church does that a new fundraiser would conflict with.. a non-response told me that the point got across.

The funny part? Another band fund raiser came tonight via email… simply certificates and movie tickets.

I hear you, Gavin. There is literally no time to do a fund raiser that doesn’t overlap with another from within or outside the church. I hate nickel and diming people for things all the time.

I want to hear your thoughts!
