The birthday surprise

100_2415.JPG100_2417.JPGFriday evening was Cathie’s birthday surprise, and she really didn’t know where she was going until the last minute! Where did we go? To see a favorite band of hers (and mine), Third Day, in concert along with 3 other bands (Revive, DecemberRadio and Sanctus Real). Part 2 of the surprise was backstage passes to meet the members of Third Day, something she was very excited about! (pic on left is the birthday girl with Third Day’s lead singer Mac Powell, on the right with bassist Tai Anderson)

100_2423.JPGWe enjoyed the show very much and left having discovered a new band, Revive, whose members hail from Australia. They only had about 10 minutes on stage, but they engaged well with the crowd and had the crowd on its feet (even coaxing one audience member to sing the chorus of one of their songs on his own), and my baby girl decided they could talk to her all day. Their newly released recording, Chorus of the Saints, features the 2 songs they played on Friday plus a track featuring their producer, Mac Powell. Cathie came home with an autographed copy of their CD, and had her photo taken with the band (right).

It was a great time for both of us, which is my favorite part of the evening. I’ve been enjoying Third Day’s music for a long time (in fact, I had them sign my copy of their first CD), and in many ways their songs are part of Cathie’s soundtrack. It was a blessing to sing along with her to some of our favorite songs, to laugh with her and surprise her more than once in the same evening. How often can a mom and a 16-year-old have that kind of day? It’s a keeper.

You are like the coolest mom ever! :) And you’re right, those are special moments. Some of my best ones with Kelsey have been similar experiences. Third Day is one of the few bands I haven’t met, being the groupie that I am. Did they happen to mention anything about touring with Switchfoot this fall? I heard a rumor about that, and we are currently trying to book Switchfoot here on their fall tour. If we could get TD as well, that would be amazing.

LOL, sometimes the ducks line up and make me look cool! Her present today produced shrieks – Leeland’s Opposite Way with an autographed insert.

I haven’t heard about a 3D-Switchfoot tour, but I’ll keep my ear to the ground. I’m much more CD ‘street date’ focused – rather tour focused – thanks to reviews.

You do realize, Lisa, that the cost for those two would be THROUGH THE ROOF? I’m talking astronomical. :-( TD, about ten years ago, was going for $30,000. No idea what their cost is now, but I doubt it’s gone down much.

Patti, can you adopt me? 😀
