Trumpeting the (almost) news!

trumpet.jpgTim’s much anticipated (sometimes dreaded) audition for admittance to the Saint Rose music department took place this morning.  He did so well!  I was sitting in the hallway and could hear, and it was encouraging to notice that several current music students gravitated toward the sound; they even waited for Tim to come out and as him what piece it was and chat with him.

He was able to impress the faculty hearing him for several reasons, including that he prepared an entire three-movement work, that he produced superior tone, and that he played their selected parts of the piece (Fitzgerald’s Gaelic Suite) well.  He’ll get official notification by mail next week, but he feels really good about how it went.

Every once in a while he’ll turn to me and say, “I’m a music major” with the kind of lit up face that’s contagious.  He worked hard, especially this last week, to prepare the piece, to increase his endurance for the long work he’d chosen, and to fight past the serious nerves that go with that something you really, really want to achieve but for this one obstacle yet in the path.

On a personal note, it’s incredible to have good news to share about Tim after all the struggle that filled the last 2 years.

Great News, Tim! You’re doing what I always wanted to do. And I believe you actually have the talent and the discipline to succeed.
