We interrupt this off-season to congratulate our favorite Mets player, David Wright on winning his first Gold Glove Award. While the team may have had a meltdown in ’07, David had a stellar season at third base while also joining the 30-30 club. 2007 was his third season in the majors.
Quoted by MLB.com, Wright said “I’d like to be known as a player who does everything above average. And I think going 30-30 would be an indication that I do at least two things well. I have worked hard at trying to become a complete player.”
He continued, “I want to especially thank our [third-base] coach, Sandy Alomar, who put in so much extra time this season, hitting me ground ball after ground ball. A Glove Glove really means a lot.”
Congratulations to David, teammate Carlos Beltran, and all the members of the 51st Rawlings Gold Glove team.
115 days to spring training.
